   • Exchange students can choose between the Type U (for undergraduate students) and Type G (for graduate students) programs.
   • : The Type U program is designed for undergraduate students to take various courses across Faculties and College in which you are interested.
   • : The Type G program is designed for graduate students. Type G participants will belong to one of the Graduate Schools. Type G students will be able to take various courses or conduct research under the guidance of faculty members.

6. USTEP Type U students can take only classes that are open for USTEP students. In general they cannot take graduate level classes, but they can take graduate level classes that are listed on Type U course catalogue.
7. For Type G, it depend on the graduate schools.
8. USTEP students must register for a minimum of 10 hours worth of classes per week which is equivalent to 12 credits per semester
9. Students interested in taking seminars offered in “Japanese” and “Japanese and English” at the Faculty of Law are allowed to apply for only one seminar course per semester. 
10. USTEP Type U students are allowed to take up to two credit-bearing Japanese language classes per week (apply to students enrolling from the spring of 2025 onwards).
11. Students who request to take three credit-bearing Japanese language courses per week must get special permission by including a document filled out by their home university in the online application process. This application will be reviewed by UTokyo before permission can be granted.
12. Please note that a course offered twice a week counts as two classes. There are no restrictions on non-credit-bearing Japanese language programs offered by the . Some non-credit- bearing courses are offered by Faculty of Engineering.
13. Please note that UTokyo is unable to provide scholarships to USTEP students. Please be well prepared to secure at least monthly funds of ¥120,000 when you apply. Shortly after the announcement of the result, you will be asked to submit the bank balance showing that you have ¥120,000 per month for each month of enrollment at the University of Tokyo. For those students who may encounter financial difficulties, we strongly recommend that students apply for scholarship in their home university or their home country. When participating in an exchange program, it is common to receive scholarships from your home university or country of residence.

1. 經甄選錄取獲得本校推薦資格之交換生，須依照所錄取之語言要求（JLPT、IELTS或TOEFL iBT），來遞交交換學校之交換入學申請文件。例如：以JLPT語言條件取得交換資格者，須申請該校之一般交換學生計畫（意即以日語授課之課程）；以IELTS或TOEFL iBT語言條件取得交換資格者，須申請該校之英語課程交換學生計畫（通常是國際學部專門開設給国际学生的英語授課課程）。
2. 经甄选录取获得本校推荐资格之交换生，不得於取得该校入学许可后，要求变更已取得的入学许可条件；或者是交换申请被该校拒绝后，要求以另一种条件重新提出申请（包括但不限於：原先录取日文授课计画，改為英文授课计画）。如有以上情事者，将直接取消其录取资格，并受罚金及罚则约束。
3. 若該校提供兩種或以上不同語言的交換學生計畫，交換生名额是分開計算，不同語言條件之交換入學申請，亦由該校不同的委員會審查。
